Henry George became a pupil at the Central School of Arts and Crafts (London) at the age of 14, in 1899. In 1912, after working in Berlin, he returned to Britain and opened his own London-based workshop. During World War I Murphy enlisted in the Royal Navy Air Service, then after hostilities had ceased, he returned to London to open a workshop and a shop. He later went back to his beginnings at the Central School, teaching students in goldsmithing and enamelling; he later became the first head of silversmithing and later the principal of the school.

Condition Report
The coconut shell has fine cracks of various lengths, one being particularly visible to the naked eye and slightly raised so can be felt with the finger nail. One silver foot has been later glued into place resulting in dripped glue residue over the coconut shell. One shallow dent to the interior base of the silver bowl and some pinpoint dents.
