A George III silver double barrel beaker by Peter & Jonathan Bateman, London 1790, opens up to two beakers with gilt interiors, which are decorated with engravings and reeded girdles to simulate a wooden barrel, also a circular registration key on the side, both bases engraved with the inscription "The gift of Mrs Griffydd to E Owen", and struck with assay marks, 14.0 cm high, 252.6 grams (8.12ozt).
Peter & Jonathan Bateman silver is rare, as the partnership only operated for 6 months since 1790 following the retirement of their mother Hester Bateman, and Jonathan’s death in April 1791.
