A Mid-Victorian diamond and enamel demi-parure, comprising a necklace, a bracelet and a pair of earrings; all featuring an applied foliate motif embellished with rose-cut diamonds, superimposed on oval cobalt enamel plaques, collet-set within swirled tubular surrounds; the drop pendant attached to a snake chain with engraved box clasp, 41.5 cm long; bracelet with conforming chain and tongue clasp, 18.5 cm long; earrings fitted with dormeuse sprung wires, drop length 3.0 cm; all mounted in unmarked gilt metal, in fitted cases.

The parure belonged to Agnes Millonig (b.1819) and there is a portrait painted by Matevž Langus of her wearing the set, which will be offered as lot 5 in our Interiors, Art & Antiques sale (Thursday 30th January 9.30am)

Agnes Millonig (neé Dullar), was born in Vavta vas, Slovenia in 1819, one of seven children of Franz and Margaretha Dullar. Once married she may have settled in Ljubljana as it would appear that the ruins of Ljubljana Castle are visible in the background of the portrait.

Sold for £6,500

Condition Report

The hinge of the fitted case for the necklace and earrings is damaged.
The applied floral motif on one of the earrings is loose and would need repairing. Two soldered repairs to the back of the large pendant on the necklace.
