A Staunton pattern boxwood and ebony chess set, late 19th century, the knights and rooks of both sides with red crown mark, the pieces with no other markings, weighted undersides and many with green registration lozenge label the kings 8.7 cm high, the pawns 4 cm, contained in a non-conforming mahogany box.

Condition Report

Not marked for Jaques. Broken cross at the top of white king. Point to top of one bishop (black) missing. Chips and losses to the foot of one white pawn, split to the wood on another. Small chip to the foot of one black pawn. Minor nicks to other ppieces, visible on close inspection.
