Nancy Fouts (American, 1945-2019), 'Commoners Crown' 1976 an abstract crown sculpture comprised of several thousand toy plastic human figures, sprayed gold. Together with a copy of the vinyl record cover showing the crown as used for the record sleeve for the album by Manfred Mann and Steeleye Span. The crown; 35cm high. (2)

This Crown was designed by Nancy and her then-husband Malcome Folwer at the Shirtsleeve Studio for Manfred Mann and Steeleye Span. Their design for 'Commoner's Crown' won the Music Week’s award for best-designed British album sleeve in 1976. For more information about the album click here

Literature: This crown was a precursor to one of Nancy's largest works #172 'Trojan Donkey' which is illustrated in the 'Nancy Fouts' (2018) monograph catalogue raisonné, with essay by James Putnam.
