Does Boodles Jewellery Hold its Value?

Branded jewellery transcends fashion and can be a solid investment

17/10/2024

Boodles, formerly Boodle and Dunthorne, is a prestigious, family-run firm that can trace its origins back to 1798. Opening in Liverpool, the firm expanded in the North of England, moving South, and opening their first London branch, opposite Harrods, in 1987.

Sold for £5,800

The firm’s reputation for exceptional quality and British design was cemented when it was commissioned to make a solid silver cake stand for one of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding cakes. Boodle and Dunthorne also made the trophy for the Grand National in 1958 and has, since 2008, become internationally renowned for launching new, limited production, jewellery collections every 2 years. These have become highly collectible, especially when the collections are no longer available on the retail market.

Boodles has become one of the leading importers of diamonds in the UK and is the only British brand licensed to sell the Ashoka-cut diamonds with their 62 facets and extraordinary sparkle.

Famous collections such as the Wonderland, Raindance, Knot, and Greenfire have a loyal following and have quickly become design classics. The Raindance ring, which features 9 brilliant cut diamonds set to represent glistening raindrops, has spawned countless imitations since its launch in 2002 and now sits in the permanent jewellery collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum as an example of iconic British design.

Heavily inspired by nature and movement, Boodles Jewellery has received celebrity endorsement on the red carpet from the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Rosamund Pike, and Emma Thompson, and was awarded British Luxury Brand of the Year by the prestigious Walpole British Luxury Awards in 2023.

Because Boodles is an internationally respected brand for its innovative design, high quality materials and exquisite craftsmanship, the exclusive pieces hold their value well when it comes to re-sale. Pieces can command tens of thousands of pounds and, although there will always be a drop in value from brand-new, retail prices, the pre-loved market is robust. Branded jewellery transcends fashion and can be a solid investment, described by Vogue as the most portable form of wealth in the world.

When sold at a reputable international auction house, pieces can achieve high prices as bidding is competitive.
