Robert Gibbings, was a founding member of the Society of Wood Engravers and ran the Golden Cockerel Press until 1933. Gibbings illustrated a number of books on travel and natural history, and he became the first man to draw underwater using pencil and panels of xylonite during an expedition to Bermuda. Some of these illustrations were later used as wood engravings for 'Blue Angels and Whales' published in 1938.
