Joan Crawford began her career in the 1920s as a dancer in travelling revues and signed a motion picture contact with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924. She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Mildred Peirce (1945) and went on to become one of Hollywood’s highest paid women in the United States.
